2012 Youth Mission Trip Plans Underway!
Mark your 2012 calendar now for our Youth Mission Trip on July 8th - July 14th!
Plans for the 2012 Youth Mission Trip are already underway. Students who will be going into 9th grade-college are eligible and encouraged to attend. We hope that you will join us July 8th – July 14th, 2012 for a week of spiritual growth, fun with friends (both old and new) and, of course, building a house. Mark these dates on your 2012 calendar.
For nearly thirty years the youth of the First Presbyterian Church of Hastings have spent a week building a house for a needy family in the Munising area.
The committee has discussed many fundraising options and more will continue to be added to our growing list. Here is what you need to know: this year each youth participant will be required to earn 50 points in order to attend the week long trip. Now there are many ways for you to “earn points”. You simply need to participate in the fundraising opportunities; for every event you participate in you will earn points towards the trip. Full day events will earn you 10-points and a few hours or a half-day event will earn you 5-points.
There are plenty of opportunities for you to participate in and earn points, like:
Picking-up Rocks at the Church – August 23, 25, 30, 2011 – 5 points for 2 hours
Dock Removal for Marjory Richards – September 17, 2011 – 5 points
Speak at the YMT Follow-up Program – October 2, 2011 – 5 points
Sell 2012 Calendars – Fall 2011 – 5 points (for 5 calendars)
Sell Cookbooks and pies at 10,000 Villages – November 11th/12th – 5 points
Make Apple Pies – crust day (November 4th 5-9 p.m.) – 5 points
Make Apple Pies – apple day (November 5th – 8-6 p.m.) – 5 or 10 points
Help serve/clean-up at the Annual Meeting Dinner – February 12, 2012 – 5 points
Help serve/clean-up at Easter Breakfast – April 8, 2012 – 5 points
Dock Set-up for Marjory Richards – May 19, 2012 – 5 points
Other events (a pop can drive, writing sponsor letters, etc.) are options that you can do on your own and then donate the money you raise towards the Youth Mission Trip. If you have additional ideas, please let us know about them!
