Since 1991, the First Presbyterian Church of Hastings has been sponsoring short-term mission trips to the Yucatan of Mexico, Honduras and Costa Rica.
While sharing the love of Christ, mission teams conduct Bible School Programs for children, provide medical and dental services to the poor, remodel and construct homes for the handicapped, schools and churches. In 2011, 24 missionary volunteers went to the slums of San Jose, Costa Rica and treated nearly 500 patients in the medical clinic, cared for 120 dental patients, conducted a Bible School Program for 40 children daily, remodeled a bathroom at a youth center in the slums and distributed 300 pairs of eye glasses. Currently partnering with Christ for the City International in San Jose, Costa Rica, teams are committed to enabling local indigenous Christians to reach out to their own people in the name of Christ.
These Christ-centered mission experiences provide participants an opportunity to touch lives in Jesus Name. Teams typically begin their day with prayer and end their day with devotions. Team members have discovered that God invited them to join Him in His work around the world. When they responded and joined the team, they took a step of faith and that step of faith and the mission experience itself brought them closer to God. As a result, most team members say that they have encountered the love of God in a powerful and live-changing way. Church members and their families along with members of the community are encouraged to participate.

Give For You
Local and Global
At First Presbyterian Church, both our local and global mission trips are a crucial component of our ministry goals.
Our missions ministry is here to mobilize and equip God's people to effectively reach the nation and World for Jesus Christ. Our missions include planting churches, rebuilding homes, teaching and educating un reached groups of people, equip leaders, establish reproducible ministries, and assisting in providing both medical/dental supplies and exams to under served areas.
Within this past year, our church has visited the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico, Honduras, and delivered much needed medical and dental supplies, along with placing educational teams throughout the region to assist in equipping leaders and teaching the gospel. In the Fall of 2010, we visited Costa Rica to assist in education, teaching, and rebuilding under served areas. Additional opportunities have included responding to disasters such as flooding in Missouri, Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, and building wheelchair ramps or repairing roofs for persons right here in Barry County.
We are proud to have ongoing partnerships locally and all over the world. In obedience to God's command, we are blessed each year as a multitude of our church members volunteer to participate in mission trips around Michigan, the country, and the World. At First Presbyterian Church, we are proud that we don't just talk about going to the Ends of the Earth; but that we actually go!
