The mission of the Children’s Ministry is to empower children through fifth grade to grow spiritually, while learning and experiencing transforming ways to serve God in our church and in our world.
With a Bachelors in Recreational Planning, from Western Michigan University, Tracy began working at the First Presbyterian Church of Hastings in October of 2008, although, she was previously a lifetime member of FPC, having been a part of the congregation for more than 31 years.
Married 13 years to David Solmes, owner of Deweys Auto Body in Hastings, Tracy and David have 3 beautiful children: Maddie, Katey and John.

Children's Ministry
The purpose of our Children's Ministry is to make disciples for Jesus Christ by providing for education, fellowship, and mission opportunities for children, preschool through fifth grade.
Our Children’s Ministry offers Sunday School for all preschool and elementary aged children. Sunday School runs from September through May and is off during the summer. Younger children are welcome in our Church Nursery at any time during the Sunday morning programming. Children’s Worship is a half-hour program for children preschool through First Grade that takes place during the second half of each service. Children are read a story and lead in activities and crafts during this time.
We have been going through a time of transition and changes in our Sunday School program. Although Sunday School will remain in the same time slot (10:00-11:00 a.m.), the program itself is undergoing many changes! This year, our lessons will focus on the Fruit of the Spirit. All children will be together (instead of separated into age groups) and they will only spend two Sundays a month in “classroom” time. The other Sundays are slotted for gym/outdoor activities and music days (where the lesson will consist of a recap of the “fruit” for that month, some more intense music time, and a snack time). My hope is to have the children perform some musical selections for the congregation at the end of the school year (using the rhythm instruments we will be learning to play soon!).
Sunday School
We Welcome Children Ages 3-5th Grade for our Fruit of The Spirit Sunday School!
Please consider worshiping with us at either our 9:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m. services on Sunday mornings and bringing your children to Sunday School at 10:00 a.m.! We invite all children from ages 3 through 5th grade to participate in our Sunday School worship hour.
*Second service also has Children's Worship right after Prayer's and Concerns, all elementary children are invited to join Children's Worship upstairs.
Each Sunday children will learn lessons around this year's theme, "Fruit Of The Spirit." During each Sunday school classroom day, children will learn a lesson, enjoy crafts or music, have a small snack, and also have prayers. Certain days also include special activities like a movie and popcorn day, Wii Tournaments, or Pickleball in our indoor church gym!
